Bled

Bled belongs to main turistic attractions in Slovenia. It´s famous mostly beacause of it´s lake ,which has chapel on the island which is located in the center of this lake, and which is surrounded by Julian Alps. Bled is located to northwest of Slovenia, approximately 80 kilometres away from Ljubljana. Bled and it´s habbitants are focused mainly on tourism, which means there are lot of hotels, motels, restaurants, bars etc.

Bled´s Lake

Bled´s Lake is the biggest temptation Bled can offer. It´s glacier lake, where you can swim, drive a boat, fish, or just walk around, but this promenade will take approximately three hours. To commute to the Assumption of Mary´s chapel you can use services of the ferryman or rent a boat.

Bled Castle

Bled Castle is looms over the lake on the rock so you can have a beatiful view on the lake and surrounding nature. First mentions about this castle are from the year 1000 A.D. but from then the castle went through many rebuilds and fixes. From lake you can get there by walking up a sheer stairs, but this exertion is definitely worth it.

Ljubljana

Ljubljana is the Capital of Slovenia, it´s located in the centre of the country and is the biggest slovenian city as well with it´s 272 thousands of habbitants. It´s placed on Ljubljanica river and is political and cultural center of Slovenia.

In Ljubljana we can find many historical monuments. We cannot avoid mentioning buildings of famous architect Josip Plečnik, who is also interesting for czechs mostly for his work in Prague where he was a proffeseur on art-industrial university and where he, on wish of his friend and Czechoslovakian first president T. G. Masaryk, renovated Prague castle.

Although he was very satisfied in Prague, he returned to Ljubljana. Then he worked in Slovenia until his death and created many structures across the country, even though only in Ljubljana he created sixty buildings. Amid his most famous sturctures belong Ljubljana´s cemetery Žale, Triple bridge, National and University library, colonnade on the shore of Ljubljanica, Zoise street or Trivoli park.

Three bridges

One of many symbols of the slovenian Capital is Trojmostovje. First mentions appeared in 1280, when there was only a wooden bridge, unfortunatel (and unexpectedly I think) this bridge was burned down and then rebuild in 1657. In 1842 it was replaced by a new bridge which was designed specially for Ljubljana by italian architect Giovanni Picce, but later in 1929 it was upgraded by Josip Plečnik who enhanced throughput.

Dragon Bridge

Historically important bridge which is guarded by statues of dragons gushing flames. There is a legend about this bridge which claims, that Dragon jiggle his tail whenever a virgin walks through the bridge.

Križanke

Križanke is cathedral complex where The order of German Knights lived. Josip Plečnik rebuilded it in his last days to concert hall.

Ljubljana castle

Ljubljana caste is medieval castle located on a mound in the capital. The first mentions about settlement comes from 12th centure before Christ. Later this castle was a residency of Carinthian duke. In 15th century a complete rampart were build, as well as towers next to main gate, drawbridge or chapel. A great change came in 19th century when the castle was rebuild. It was partly a prison, partly military fortress. In sixties a huge reconstruction has begun. Nowadays the castle is fully accesible and since 2006 there is also a cableway to the castle.

Škocjan´s caves

Škocjan´s caves can be calssified as one of the most beatiful european caves. They were created by Reke river, which excavated in limestone 5 kilometres long and 250 metres deep Škocjans hole. Reke flows in to the cave through a canyon and it is lost in the underneath Dead lake. On the surface it appears after 40 kilometres from here. This underneath world is part of limestone massif called Kras.

Postojna cave

This cave system is located near the town of Postojna and is about 20,5 km long. Nowadays, it is the second longest cave system in Slovenia, after the discovery of the cave system Migovec in 2012, which is about 25 km long. The Postojna cave system has been created by an underground river Pivka. We can walk through around 5,3 km of this cave, which is the longest accessable cave path for the general public. The endemic amphibian olm or proteus can only be seen in this cave.

Portorož

Portorož, translated as the Port of roses is a slovenian city located on the shore of Adriatic Sea. It´s officialy double-tongue city beacause it lies near Italian borders, it means everything in the city is in italian and slovenian.

Climate here is slightly seaside, beacause the land isn´t protected from Bora, in winter the temperature here can reach even lower than 0°C, especially in night. In contrast to this fact the summer is warm and dry. The average temperature is 23°C.Nowadays the city is living by a tourism, that´s why you can find here many casinos, hotels, sea beaches, ports and sport facilities.

Lipica

Lipica is part of the village Sežana located on the west of Slovenia. The name of Lipica is derived from a lindem which grows a lot around this place.The past of the city is connected with Habsburg Monarchy. In 1581 this was the place where bought horses from Spain were moved to (thanks to similar climate as in Spain. This breed was bred during the rule of Maria Theresa.

Venice

The island city of Venice is the capital city in area located in north Italy and it got the name Venezia from the Venets tribe, that inhabited the islands of lagoon due to the escape from barbarians Venice is situated on 121 small islands, that are connected with over 435 bridges over 170 canals. Venice belongs to UNESCO, so it’s no wonder that Venice is one of the most popular historical destinations to be visited by tourists.Each year, Venice is visited approximately by 15 millions of tourists.

Doge’s palace

It’s considered to be one of the most important monuments of Venice. It’s built in the Italian gothic style and it used to be a residence belonging to the Doge of Venice, leader of the Venezian republic. It’s located on the square of St. Marcus, it was built in 14th century. It is connecting elements from European gothic style with elements of byzantine gothic. Since 1923 it’s open for the general public as a museum.

Ponte di Rialto

Ponte di Rialto is a known Venezian bridge over the Canal Grande. It was built in 1181, when an architect Nicolo Barattieri built a bridge Ponte della Moneta. In 1255, this bridge was replaced with wooden bridge. During an uprising lead by Bejamonte Tiepol, this bridge wasn’t able to endure such mass so it collapsed. Later, an idea of building a new, stone bridge appeared. The bridge known to us was built in 1591 by Antonio da Ponte.

Basilica of the st. Marco

Is one of the most known monuments of Venezia and one of the best examples of byzantine architecture. Basilica can be found on the square of St. Marco, right next to the Doge’s palace. Basilica is built on a platform of equilateral cross, and those are divided by pillars into three big parts. The roof is assembled by five gigantic domes. The most important and interesting part of the basilica is a golden statue of horses and a carriage, its origins are ancient. Nowadays, if you want to see the real statue, you have to visit the Museum of St. Marco inside the basilica, but outside, bronze copies of this statue can be seen. Interior is very beautifully painted, we can also see plenty of mosaics, along with beautiful statues.

Ponte dei Sospiri

Ponte dei Sospiri is a 11 meters long bridge over the Canal Grande. It was built in 17th century in baroque style and served the purpose of connection between the Doge’s palace and prison. Right there, prisoners could take their last deep breath before entering the dark prison.

Canal Grande

Regarding the fact that we can commute in Venezia either on foot or on water, it’s obvious that Canal Grande had become the main thoroughfare. It’s the deepest of Venezian canals also with its width of 30 to 90 meters. There are only 5 bridges over this canal in Venezia, with Ponte di Rialto being the most famous and oldest one. Canal is shaped like S and it’s length is approximately 4 kms.
