Michaela Bičanová

Michaela Bičanová

Basic introduction

Mrs. Michaela Bičanová graduated from Faculty of Arts at the university Jana Evangelisty Purkyně. She has already been teaching for 24 years, 20 at this school. Before that she also taught at ZŠ Merhautova in Brno. But this school supposedly hasn’t got a chance against our grammar school, which proves the fact that she spent only 4 years at Merhautova. But here in Šlapanice she still enjoys it even after 20 years. Although it doesn't seem so, Mrs. Bičanová probably really likes students, because she wanted to become teacher when she was at the university. As she mentioned, she is really close to German from her father's side and thus she teaches it despite an apprenticeship for Czech language and history.

Teaching style

Because she teaches mainly lower grade of grammar school, her teaching is not particularly specialized. On the contrary, her lessons are pretty specific as a whole. Thanks to her loud speaking and her attitude to anything students do that disturbs her in her lessons, Mrs. Bičanová earned the title "school terror", despite all the efforts of Mr. Effenberk. Only after a few years at this school, most of the students realise that they don't mind constant yelling and sarcastic comments (almost) at all. After some time, although you wouldn't say it after the first week she teaches German, you will start to like her. And finally some advice to her lessons? Do not speak without being called, don't forget things, raise your hand... but mainly, try hard in final game - Baffle.

interview

How long have You been teaching overall? And how long at this school?

I have been teaching for about 24 years, 20 years at this school.

Where did You teach before?

At elementary school Merhautova and shortly as a temporary teacher at grammar school Křenová.

Faculty of Arts at the university Jana Evangelisty Purkyně, now it is Masaryk's university.

What did motivate You to teach, and why You chose German?

So, nothing motivated me to teach, I studied Czech language, history and that's why I had to start teaching. And German, because I like it and plus I'm a quarter German, my father is half German, so German was around me from my childhood.

How would You motivate students to choose German?

Foreign tours or a trip to Bavaria, specifically to Munich, or to Austria, especially to Salzburg, or also to Berlin.

Why do You teach at grammar school Šlapanice?

Because I got an offer from an ex-headmaster assistant, Mr. Zdeněk Sklenář, and because I like it here.
