Interviews with the trainees

IVETTE

Why have you decided to come to Czech republic with Aiesec?
Because I like teaching and couching and I think this is a good opportunity for me to develop that skills.

What did you expect?
I expected that you could be closer to my culture and got to know it, not just think that we are deserts and cactuses.

What was your first impression?
That it‘s very, very, very cold here. And I am freezing.

What do you think that is the biggest difference between the Czech republic and your country?
I think the people because in Mexico, we are a little bit more relaxed and you are more serious and quiet. We laugh a lot.

How did you enjoy the whole week?
I enjoyed it a lot. This was the best possible first experience here.

What was your best experience?
I think my first class, because I was nervous but at the end it was great and everyone enjoyed it.

LEONARDO

Why have you decided to come to the Czech republic with Aiesec?
Basically because I wanted to somehow travel to Europe and have an opportunity to teach in schools. And they told me that I could have an opportunity to teach in different schools. I started to search things about the Czech republic and I found it somehow similar so it couldn't be so difficult. I didn't want to have too many cultural shocks. So that's why I chose it.

What did you expect?
I expected to have some problems with getting along with people but it was totally the opposite. People were so friendly. I had no problems.

What was your first impression?
I loved it. The cities are beautiful, people are so friendly. Everything works. So I love it.

What do you think that is the biggest difference between the Czech republic and your country?
Transportation - it works so well. And prices, for example what we pay in Brazil for drinks or food. It's like two times more expensive than here. So your economic seems to be very good.

How did you enjoy the whole week?
The week was awesome and I really loved the school and you guys.

What was your best experience?
The biggest experience is that I'm being given the opportunity to teach in schools that are not in my country.

JESSICA

Why have you decided to come to the Czech republic with Aiesec?
Because I really wanted to come to Europe and I thought that the Czech republic is really interesting. Also not many people come to the Czech republic when they go to Europe. Usually they go to Italy or to France or somewhere else. So I wanted to do something different. I wanted to experience the culture that I've never heard about before and not many people know about so I really wanted to learn more about the Czech republic.

What did you expect?
I expected it would be cold here because it's winter. And I expected there would be a rich history because in Australia, we don't have that rich history. So that's why I was really looking forward because I really like culture and history.

What was your first impression?
I love the buldings, all of the old buldings. And I think Brno is just really pretty. It's not like very turistic, it's more real. It's like the real Czech republic.

What do you think that is the biggest difference between the Czech republic and your country?
The language. Becase australian English is very relaxed and we have a lot of different words. You seem to be little bit more formal, more organised. Like being everywhere on time.

How did you enjoy the whole week?
The week was fantastic! I really enjoyed the school and the enthusiasm of all the students. And i loved my host family.

What was your best experience?
The best experience was living in a czech family and experiencing the life like a local person.

MICHELLE

Why have you decided to come to the Czech republic with Aiesec?
Because the Czech republic is a beautiful country. I read about it on Wikipedia and I think you have a really beautiful country so I really wanted to go here.

What did you expect?
The food, like I know it's a bit differet from what I am used to but I think it's really good. The food is good and I expected it. And the people are really nice like the ones I met. And of course like good historical courses and really good experiences.

What was your first impression?
Of Brno, because I came to Brno and I thought it looks like Sweden because the buildings are colourful.

What do you think that is the biggest difference between the Czech republic and your country?
It's very relaxed here because there are not many people, whereas in Indonesia where I live is like 10 000 000 people so it's very hectic, like very busy and here it's more relaxed and I love it.

How did you enjoy the whole week?
I enjoyed my week immensely in Šlapanice, you guys set a high bar that is very hard to beat! I had the greatest week possible, everyone was soooo nice.

JOANNA

Why have you decided to come to the Czech republic with Aiesec?
I think the Czech repubublic is a beautiful European country. So I chose the Czech republic as my destination.

What did you expect?
I want to be friends with all of you. I want to become independent over making some changes about myself.

What was your first impression?
I thought I wouldn’t have enought time to present all of my presentations.

What do you think that is the biggest difference between the Czech republic and your country?
I think it’s all about that the Czech republic is in Europe and Taiwan is in Asia. It's very different.

How did you enjoy the whole week?
I spent my free time with my host family. We built a snowman, walked a dog, saw a beautiful scenery, ate a lot of amazing food, enjoyed the village and played the bowling with students!

What was your best experience?
I relaxed by watching the beautiful scenery of the Czech republic in places, where Tereza and her brother took me!

MAGGIE

Why have you decided to come to the Czech republic with Aiesec?
Because this was the first project which I saw in the Aiesec. And I love the project here because it has a lot of host families and I want to experience the different culture. So I came here to the Czech republic and participated in the project.

What did you expect?
I expected that I could meet a lot of different people here and have a lot of new friends. And I can know more about the Czech republic. Know the culture and know the lifestyle. I am really curious about all of this.

What was your first impression?
When I just came to Prague I really liked the singers on the street. We don‘t have it in China. I really love it. At the first time I saw it, I stood there and listened to them.

What do you think that is the biggest difference between the Czech republic and your country?
Maybe in China, every city is so big and in Czech I've been to Prague, Brno and somewhere else, I think it's small but I like the small cities. I can walk around and see a lot of things and go to another place. But in China whereever you go, you must go there by bus and it will take a long time and some trafic jam. I really don't like that.

How did you enjoy the whole week?
It is perfect , I love the school, the students and my host.

What was your best experience?
To teach my students the dance, and all of them liked it.
