Krakow

Krakow is the second biggest city in Poland; it’s one of the oldest cities and a jewel to nation’s cultural heritage. City lays on the south of Poland on river Vistula, in its narrowest part, so called Krakow gate, which connects Sandomierz fold and Auschwitz fold. According to the legend the name Krakow is connected with prince Krak. For centuries Krakow has been the capital town and royal residence. Today it is an important tourist town with over 6 000 historical objects.

Wawel castle

This gothic castle was built on Wawel hill at the behest of Kazimir III. the Great. In 14th century it was rebuilt and in that way it remained until a fire in 1499.

Wawel cathedral

Wawel cathedral is a church rebuilt on Wawel hill in Krakow. It’s a holy traveling place for the Polish which’s become a big cultural monument in Krakow. The cathedral’s got a long history in which it’s become a coronation place of Polish kings. Many of them are entombed here, as well as some saints or some important figures of Polish history.

Sukiennice marketplace

The marketplace takes place on the main square of Krakow and includes polish statuary and painting. The main building comes from the 14th century and since then was rebuilt many times. In the ground floor there are different cafés and souvenir shops. Gallery is in the first floor and is dedicated to Polish art.

Adam Miskiewicz monument

The monument was built for poet’s 100th anniversary 18. 6. 1898. In August 1940 the monument was destroyed, but in 1955 reveled again.

Technical university of Krakow

The University was built in 1946 and since 2009 Kazimierz Flaga has been the director. University has got 7 faculties: architecture, chemistry, electronics and IT, mathematics and IT, physics, technology of environment, civil engine and mechanics.
